CNC Routers for Metal

What Metals can I cut with a CNC Router?

The following metals are commonly cut with a CNC Router:

  • Aluminum
  • Brass
  • Copper
  • Bronze

The most important thing to be aware of is that all of those metals come in different alloys, and some of those alloys machine much better than others.

There's a second batch of metals that are much more difficult to machine, and we don't recommend them for CNC Routers:

  • Steel
  • Stainless Steel
  • Titanium

While these can be cut with Shapeoko (and we've seen people do it), a CNC router is not rigid enough to cut these metals efficiently.
